Celebrity YouTube vlogger Roman Atwood claims he was held for a lengthy period in Abu Dhabi customs over issues related to the use of his drone, causing him to miss his flight.
The internet star expressed frustration with the time consuming process in an Instagram post featuring his wife and three children.
The caption said that “yesterday Brittney and I were held in customs in Abu Dhabi due to our filming drone that was not [allowed] in Dubai. The process took so long that we missed our only flight out of the country to make it home before Easter.”
“Extremely frustrated with the process and lack of control of the situation we were forced to take another flight the next day… 20+ hours of travel later we are holding our reasons. Our purpose. The reason we do everything we do. Our children. So blessed to be home with half a Easter left,” he added.
The UAE introduced the second phase of its awareness campaign on drones in January. The regulations require all drones to be registered with the General Civil Aviation Authority in order for them to be flown legally. They also forbid drone activities within five kilometres from any airports, helipads, private properties and various other locations.
It is unclear if Atwood broke any of the regulations.
He is best known for posting comedic videos on his daily life, particularly pranks. The 34-year old has over 10 million subscribers on YouTube and more than five million followers on Instagram.
