The number of people registered on the UAE’s National Volunteering Platform, Volunteers.ae, has reached 386,994, according to the latest statistics from the official website.
The platform offers 6,756 volunteering opportunities in over 420 organisations around the country to its members, enabling them to perform their social duties in a stimulating environment.
The number of registered members reflects the growing demand among Emirati citizens and residents to participate in volunteer work, which the UAE hopes will promote tolerance and social cohesion.
Launched in June 2017, the initiative provides volunteering opportunities in a number of sectors including education, humanitarian work, care for the elderly, health, culture and arts, sports, environment, community service, hope making, and emergency response.
Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, UAE Vice President and Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, and Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi, were the first two to join volunteers.ae.
The Emirates Foundation, in collaboration with the Ministry of Community Development, developed the national volunteer platform.
