The UAE’s National Centre of Meteorology (NCM) on Thursday allayed fears that the country is in any imminent danger from the tropical cyclone category 1 named Luban.
The NCM said in a statement cited by state news agency WAM that the cyclone will have no direct effect on the UAE for the coming five days.
It added that it is closely monitoring the situation every hour and will provide updates accordingly, urging public to follow-up the official reports by the NCM and avoid rumours.
Cyclone Luban is in the west of the Arabian Sea, 500km east-southeast of Salalah in Oman. Wind speed around the centre is reaching 125-145km per hour.
According to the NCM, the cyclone is continuing to move west–northwest toward the Omani and Yemeni coasts.
