UAE says Thursday September 13 will be observed as a holiday for the public sector for the Islamic New Year

The UAE has announced that Thursday September 13 will be observed as a holiday for the public sector for the Islamic New Year.

Government workers will return to work on Sunday September 16, according to an announcement by the UAE Cabinet on Monday.

No announcement has yet been made regarding the UAE’s private sector.

The new year marked the arrival of the Prophet Mohammed in Madinah after he emigrated from Makkah.

Known as the Hijra, the migration from Makkah to Madinah marked the beginning of the Islamic era in 622AD.
