UAE-China Week to be held every year

The UAE is home to approximately 200,000 Chinese citizens and 4,000 trading companies, and the annual trade volume between the two exceeds $50bn

UAE-China Week will be held annually, the Ministry of Culture and Knowledge Development and the public diplomacy and culture directorate of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation have announced.

In a statement, Minister of Culture and Knowledge Development said that holding the event periodically will allow the UAE and China to consolidate their partnership and development innovative projects to improve cultural exchange between the two.

“The UAE-China cultural relations have developed after the recent historic visit of the Chinese President Xi Jinping, and we are keen on taking advantage of the results of this visit and the friendly relations between the two countries to highlight our civilisation, culture and heritage to our friends in China,” she said.

“It will also encourage Emirati innovators and youth to communicate with their Chinese counterparts to build bridges of cooperation.”

Minister of State Zaki Nusseibeh, for her part, said that “the decision comes in line with our strategy to establish bridges of communication with China through culture, arts and heritage to convey the Emirati message and values to the Chinese society with which we have a strong relationship.”

This year’s UAE-China Week ended with a raft of economic agreements between the two countries. Additionally, a number of business signed agreements.

The Abu Dhabi National Oil Co (ADNOC) awarded two countries worth $1.6 billion to BGP Inc. a subsidiary of the China National Petroleum Company.

The UAE is home to approximately 200,000 Chinese citizens and 4,000 trading companies, and the annual trade volume between the two exceeds $50bn – a figure that represents 23 percent of all trade between China and the Arab world.
