Eid Al Fitr holiday for private sector employees in the UAE will fall on Friday June 15 or Saturday June 16 (Shawwal 1 or 2), according to the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation, though the official start is subjected to moon sightings.
If Ramadan ends at 29 days and Eid falls on Friday, private sector firms will be closed until Saturday, with work resuming on Sunday. If it ends at 30 days and Eid falls on Saturday, they will remain closed until Sunday, with work resuming on Monday.
“It is decided that the first and second days of the month of Shawwal 1439 Hijri shall be a paid vacation for all private-sector employees on the occasion of Eid Al Fitr,” a circular issued by Minister Nasser Al Hameli said.
As for the public sector, government ministries and departments will be closed from Thursday, resuming work on either Monday or Tuesday, depending on moon sightings.
Eid Al Fitr is one of two holy feasts in the Muslim world. It translates into ‘the feast of breaking the fast’.
