The Saudi Royal Air Defence Forces has announced the interception of a ballistic missile fired from the Yemeni territories towards the Saudi city of Jazan on Thursday evening.
Saudi Press Agency quoted Colonel Turki Al-Malki, official spokesman of the Coalition Forces for Supporting the Legitimacy in Yemen, as saying that at 9.35pm local time the missile deliberately targeted densely-populated areas in the southern city.
He added that the missile came from the Yemeni governorate of Saada, a Houthi stronghold.
Al-Malki, in comments cited by the UAE’s state news agency WAM, described the move as “yet another evidence of the involvement of the Iranian regime in supporting the armed Houthi militias with qualitative capabilities”.
“Launching ballistic missiles towards villages, cities and populated areas is considered a blatant breach of the international humanitarian law,” he added.
