UAE reduces Al Hosn Green Pass validity to 14 days amid spiking Covid-19 cases

The country’s crisis authority warned that some residents have not been following isolation rules

Al Hosn

The UAE will reduce the validity of its Al Hosn Green Pass to 14 days from 30 days, the National Emergency Crisis and Disaster Management Authority (NCEMA) said on Monday.

The announcement came during a televised media briefing as Covid-19 cases rise in the country. On Monday, NCEMA announced 1,319 cases of Covid-19, an over 100 percent increase over a week earlier.

The Al Hosn announcement will take effect from Wednesday, June 15, for all sectors, excluding the education sector and students which have until Monday, June 20, to adhere to the new rules.

NCEMA noted that not all residents have been following mandatory isolation measures, adding that failure to do so “threatens the safety of society and causes the spread of the virus.” Those found breaking isolation rules will face legal penalties.

The organisation also issued a reminder that not wearing face masks in closed places is an offence, with a fine of up to AED3,000 dirhams. NCEMA said that enforcement of face mask rules would be tightened from now on.
