UAE opens largest medical centre for Turkey-Syria earthquake victims

The hospital has 50 beds and four ICU beds, and is located in an area measuring 40,000 square metres

The Emirati Relief Field hospital in Gaziantep has begun its mission of helping earthquake victims in Turkey after being equipped and receiving medical, technical and administrative teams.

The hospital, which is the first level III field hospital in Turkey by international standards, has 50 beds and four ICU beds, and is located in an area measuring 40,000 square metres.

The inauguration of the hospital was attended by UAE Ambassador to Turkey, Saeed Thani Al Dhaheri, and several Turkish officials.

As per a report by the Emirates News Agency (WAM), Al Dhaheri said that the field hospital was established upon the directives of the UAE’s leadership and embodies the country’s humanitarian approach stipulated by the ninth principle of the Principles of the 50, highlighting the UAE’s commitment to its humanitarian obligations and its keenness to stand by victims of conflicts and disasters around the world.

The Emirati team has coordinated with Turkish authorities to identify the basic and urgent needs of the victims, he added.

The hospital includes various departments and medical staff, such as reception, screening, emergency, surgery, intensive care, dentistry, x-ray, laboratory, pharmacy and outpatient sections, Staff Brigadier Dr Abdullah Khadem Al Ghaithi, Commander of the Emirates Relief Field Hospital, said.

He added: The hospital’s medical staff includes psychologists who can help individuals suffering from anxiety, depression and post-traumatic disorders caused by the disaster that hit the country, he explained adding that the hospital performs critical surgeries as well.

In addition, Al Dhaheri also thanked Turkish authorities for their support in enabling the hospital to carry out its humanitarian mission.
