There has been a surge of Russian-speaking doctors relocating to the UAE, according to new data by Dubai-based relocation services company Volna.
Over 10,000 medical professionals are expected to make the move annually in the coming years, with the surge in interest expected to reshape the local healthcare landscape.
Since February 2023, Volna has received an 5,000 relocation requests from Russian-speaking doctors.
Of those, 150 have already received the necessary licenses to practice in the UAE, while 500 additional applications are currently in progress.
In addition, Volna expects to see the arrival of at least 500 new doctors in 2024 alone.
Why are Russian-speaking doctors moving to the UAE?
The growing interest from Russian-speaking doctors is partly due to the fact that currently only 1.5 percent of physicians in the Emirates are from the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) countries and are fluent in Russian.
This demand is further pushed by the establishment of Russian-owned medical centers in the UAE, including renowned facilities such as Kandinsky Clinic, Polyclinic.ae, CIDK Clinic, Milena Aesthetic Clinic, and more.
“Our mission extends beyond facilitating relocations. We aim to empower Russian-speaking doctors by enhancing their career prospects and connecting them with global opportunities. The UAE offers an enhanced quality of life that is both attainable and rewarding,” Ksenia Butova, Founder & CEO of Volna said.
The surge in demand for Russian-speaking medical professionals has had a profound impact on Dubai’s healthcare sector.
