Saudi Arabia has lauded the G20 move to launch the Global Initiative in the Field of Digital Health (GIDH) to formulate global standards and best practices in the sector.
The initiative was launched at the G20 health ministers meeting on Saturday in India, in cooperation with the World Health Organisation (WHO).
Through this initiative, the WHO seeks to support the implementation of the Global Digital Health Strategy 2020-2025 to contribute to standardising global standards, best practices and resources to accelerate the transformation of the digital health system and achieve measurable results.
Saudi Arabia’s digital health journey
In his speech during the launch of the initiative, the Saudi Arabian Minister of Health, Fahd bin Abdul Rahman Al-Jalajil, expressed his thanks to the Indian presidency for continuing work on digital health issues, which began during the kingdom’s presidency in the year 2020.
The minister participated in the launch of the initiative at the invitation of the Indian presidency to talk about digital transformation in health, and the artificial intelligence that the kingdom is witnessing, including the virtual health hospital, and the kingdom’s qualitative experience in this field.
For his part, the President of the WHO Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus thanked the G20 countries and India’s presidency of the group for supporting the technical role of the global health body in this field, and for supporting the establishment of the new GIDH network.
At the initiative launch, a World Bank report was presented, which highlighted that technology and data are an essential part of daily life, and that healthcare systems are facing increasing demands to provide new services to reach everyone everywhere.
