People in Abu Dhabi will no longer have to show the Al Hosn Green Pass to enter public spaces after Covid-19 requirements were lifted in the UAE.
The new rules begin at 6am on Monday, November 7 and come after more than two-and-a-half years of stringent rules since the start of the coronavirus pandemic.
The phasing out of the Al Hosn Green Pass was announced by the UAE’s National Emergency Crisis and Disasters Management Authority.
Al Hosn Green Pass no longer needed
The Al Hosn Green Pass app was introduced in June last year and was needed to enter any public spaces in Abu Dhabi.
PCR testing and treatment health facilities will continue to operate and the five-days isolation period for those infected with COVID-19 will still be implemented said the official announcement.
In addition, it was announced that face masks are now optional in all open and closed facilities in Abu Dhabi, including places of worship and mosques.
Masks will still be required in health facilities and centres for people of determination.
The first case of coronavirus in the UAE was detected on 29 January 2020, and the first two deaths confirmed on March 20 2020.
Less than a week later, on March 26, the UAE effectively shut its borders, suspending all inbound and outbound travel, and the first “lockdown” began a week later.
In September it was announced that the UAE would lift mask-wearing rules. Face mask rules had been in effect for more than two-and-a-half-years.
