Abu Dhabi’s Department of Health (DoH) has taken firm action against several healthcare facilities in the Emirate found to be in violation of healthcare laws and regulations.
The DoH’s decisive measures aim to uphold the well-being of the community and ensure the provision of high-quality healthcare services.
One healthcare centre has incurred a one million dirhams fine and faces further investigation as several doctors have been referred for scrutiny, the authority said in a statement.
The centre has been prohibited from offering dental services across all its branches due to suspected fraudulent activities aimed at misappropriating public funds.
Healthcare crackdown
Moreover, following extensive inspections, eight healthcare facilities have been shut down. Among these are an occupational medicine centre, a laboratory, and a medical centre, which were found in violation of Federal Law No. 14 of 2014 pertaining to the prevention of infectious diseases.
These facilities also failed to comply with regulations for electronic reporting and neglected to follow the Department’s standards for public health statistics reporting.
In addition, four home care facilities have been closed for non-compliance with the DoH’s standards and regulations governing home care services, coupled with multiple violations.
These violations include failure to obtain proper patient consent, lack of comprehensive explanations of treatment procedures and associated risks, and the absence of DoH approval for secondment contracts between facilities.
Other infractions include the failure to provide essential medicines, medical supplies, or devices for emergencies, as well as the unauthorised use of healthcare facilities by unlicensed individuals.
Serious concerns were raised regarding the lack of essential medicines, medical supplies, and devices for emergency cases at these facilities.
Additionally, their failure to adhere to safety procedures and infection prevention measures was noted, along with inadequate maintenance of supplies, improper handling and disposal of medical waste, and insufficient storage of patient medical records.
The DoH has also announced the closure of a dental clinic due to multiple violations. These include the employment of unlicensed healthcare professionals, non-compliance with sterilisation protocols, and the use of non-sterile medical supplies.
Moreover, the clinic was found to be deficient in recording comprehensive medical histories, procedures, examinations, interventions, or treatments in patient files. It was also discovered that the clinic was operating in a field different from its licensing.
The DoH has called on all healthcare facilities operating in Abu Dhabi to adhere to its policies and regulations, emphasising the importance of maintaining an efficient healthcare system, ensuring the health and safety of the community, and providing healthcare services in line with international best practices.
The Department remains committed to enhancing the quality and efficiency of healthcare services by actively monitoring violations and assisting non-compliant facilities in rectifying their shortcomings to ensure the health and safety of all community members.
