The Department of Energy (DoE) in Abu Dhabi is set to introduce a new unified water management strategy for the emirate, as announced by Chairman Awaidha Murshed Al Marar at the World Utilities Congress 2024.
The strategy has been developed in cooperation with various stakeholders to align the sector’s current reality with future goals, enhancing the utilisation of available water resources, Al Marar said, according to a statement by the Emirates News Agency (WAM).
The comprehensive strategy covers all stages of the water cycle, from production and delivery to consumption. It will monitor water’s added value, analyse loss rates, and identify methods for optimising usage and promoting conservation.
Abu Dhabi to optimise water resources with new strategy
“This strategy seeks to align sector-level goals, increase data transparency, stimulate the launch of initiatives, and define strategic measures to support national strategies and improve outcomes,” Al Marar explained.
The DoE plans to issue new policies and regulations to promote sustainability in Abu Dhabi’s water and electricity sectors, the statement said, adding that these measures aim to improve service quality, lower costs, and reduce environmental impact.
Al Marar noted that while Abu Dhabi’s water and electricity production already aligns with global best practices and offers affordable rates, continued rationalisation and optimal use of these resources remain crucial.
The strategy’s implementation is expected to drive sustainable development and economic growth in the emirate.
