Timings for school hours have been announced by Dubai’s Knowledge and Human Development Authority (KHDA) on Friday.
Arabian Business has seen a circular regarding the updated school timings for Ramadan, and as per the latest announcement:
- Schools should provide a maximum of five hours of instruction time.
- Schools must end instruction on Fridays by 12:00 noon to accommodate Friday prayer.
- Fasting students are exempt from participating in PE classes, if requested.
- Homework and revision expectations to also be reconsidered and lowered.
Ramadan in the UAE is expected to begin on March 23 and end on April 21, according to the International Astronomical Centre.
The centre has confirmed that the crescent of Ramadan will be visible on Wednesday, March 22, and thus Thursday, March 23, will mark the beginning of the holy month in certain Arab nations.
The Emirates Astronomical Society has also predicted that Ramadan 2023 will begin on March 23, with Eid Al-Fitr falling on Friday, April 21.
“Ramadan this year will begin on Thursday, March 23 and will be for 29 days. Eid Al-Fitr will be on Friday, April 21,” Emirates Astronomical Society’s chairman Ibrahim Al Jarwan said.
However, in India, Bangladesh, and Pakistan, the holy month is expected to commence on Friday, March 24, since the crescent of Ramadan will not be visible in these countries.
The holy month is significant for Muslims worldwide, as it is a time of fasting, prayer, and spiritual reflection. Muslims observe a strict fast from dawn until sunset during this month, abstaining from food, drink, and other physical desires.
They break their fast at sunset with a meal called iftar, and the month culminates in the celebration of Eid Al-Fitr.
