Jadarah , meaning ability, is a stellar six-month talent accelerator programme which launched in May 2018, by Al Tayyar Strategic Online Business Unit. Founded for the Arab youth in the region and in partnership with global industry giants such as Google, Twitter, Amadeus, Facebook, and Udacity, Jadarah aims to train and empower the next generation of Arab leaders.

Jadarah received more than 1,100 applications from young Arab individuals in the region and 21 candidates were successfully selected to be part of the programme which kicked off in September, and will run until February 28 2019. The trainees are graduates from esteemed global universities, including Columbia University in the USA, Paris-Sorbonne University in France and University of Sussex in England.

Locally curated in the region, for the region

The unique one-of-a-kind programme is designed to elevate career aspirations, as well as aid in empowering and strengthening core values of leadership, expand a world of opportunities for its trainees and help them to become business-savvy innovators of the MENA region.

Jadarah is designed to help the talent in the region to not just kick-start their career in the digital and entrepreneurial frontier but also train them to become future business leaders, representing an ever-changing market. Based on their performance and output levels, different career options will arise for the participants after completion of the programme, including working on a startup venture, opportunities at the Al Tayyar Strategic Online Business Unit, joining one of the programme partners and gaining access to the talent accelerator alumni network.

Speed-networking, the fastest approach to building connections

Phase one of the programme saw Jadarah candidates hosted by industry leader LinkedIn, at their regional offices based in Dubai, UAE, where they were given an exclusive presentation. The hands-on session covered a range of topics including an introduction into presentation skills, as well as an onboarding session on different personality types and dynamics within an organisation.

To help candidates get to know one another and their mentors, they took part in a speed-networking exercise in which each individual had to introduce themselves within 90 seconds.

Mohammad Ardati, one of the trainees at Jadarah, and a graduate of SDA Bocconi School of Management, Milan, Italy, said that within the first week of the programme, he learnt about his peers, mentors and the team, thanks to the speed-networking exercise.

“I realised each team member has something special to add to the programme and with this exercise, I got to know so many of my peers and mentors at a more personal level,” he said.

Hands-on teaching in an office environment

Laila Al Omran, Founder of Jadarah , presented six complex topics to the trainees who were given 24 hours to choose their subject and render their research insights, before presenting the entire module. The topics ranged from creating a solution that would encourage user-generated content, designing a platform flow as a corporate solution for a cost-efficient process, and many others.

Commenting on this activity, Laila Al Omran said: “Through the 24-hours of research time, team-discussions, and a contagious flow of energy of introspecting, debating, questioning, and laying countless possibilities, our trainees emerged with some of the finest ideas and it was so inspiring to see them in action.”

Dina Ayoub, one of the Jadarah candidates and a graduate from the American University of Beirut said: “The greatest challenge in week two of Jadarah was picking an idea for a new venture and exploring which of my team members had expertise in the respective field and collaborating to agree on a cohesive idea.

“One of the most rewarding feelings was receiving positive feedback from our mentors when our ideas came together. This gave us the confidence to move onto the next project” she explained.

During the third week of the programme, trainees were also invited to inspirational sessions from key entrepreneurs from the region, including Al Tayyar Travel Group Holding’s Managing Director & CEO, Mr. Abdullah bin Nasser Al-Dawood and Aysha Al Mudhaf, Youth Empowerment Analyst at Zain Group who shared their knowledge and expertise.

Over the next few weeks, trainees will be trained by one of the key partners, Twitter where they will get knowledge on regional insights on how to build, promote and convert campaigns and engagements into opportunities on Twitter.

The candidates will also be at the Google office for seven days for their “Certification Bootcamp” and will also have a full day at the Careem office where they will meet the CEO and learn about the business model. In addition to this, the trainees will be part of the Dubai Entrepreneurial Cluster at Emirates Towers for four days and will be surrounded by successful start-ups to get training on their business pitch skills.

Students who want to pursue a career in tech will go on a four-day trip to Nice to the Amadeus office for an intensive training course.

Jadarah is also powered by www.almosafer.com and www.tajawal.ae and is a proud sponsor of the Arabian Business StartUp Academy events in September and December 2018.
