Malaysia’s WCT Engineering has teamed up with Arabtec Engineering Services to build phase one of Dubai World Central International Airport’s storm-water drainage and sewerage system.
The contract is worth US $132.7 million (AED487.3 million) and is WCT Engineering’s first project in the UAE.
“The works consist of supplying and installing the underground utilities for the airport, which include the networks for storm water, sewerage and irrigation, pumping stations, irrigation storage tanks and retention ponds,” the company said in a statement.
The project will involve more than 100km of pressure pipes and more than 120km of gravity pipes up to 3.2m in diameter. It is expected to be completed by the third quarter of 2008.
WCT said it would finance its share of the project’s cost through internally generated funds and bank loans.
WCT is currently building Bahrain City Centre, while in Qatar it is working on the civil and infrastructure works for the New Doha International Airport and the Dukhan Highway.
