Saudi Arabia is building a 1,000-mile long fence along the border with its southern neighbour Yemen as the kingdom strives to boost security.

Saudi Arabia is building the fence to seal the porous border from drug smugglers, weapons dealers and al Qaeda inspired militants or affiliates, the BBC reported.

The fence stretches from the Red Sea in western part of the country to the kingdom’s borders with Oman in the east.

A number of Saudi guards have been killed in sporadic skirmishes with smugglers and wanted militants have escaped to Yemen.

In the past year and half US drone attacks have killed several Saudi militants in Yemen.
