The Oman Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology (MTCIT) has revealed a series of vital road projects in the upcoming year, aiming to enhance transportation infrastructure across Oman.

One such project, awarded by the Secretariat General of the Tender Board, holds significant promise for boosting tourism in the scenic Wilayat of Sur in South Al Sharqiyah Governorate.

The awarded contract, valued at over OMR4 million ($10.4 million approximately), is earmarked for the design and construction of a road linking Wadi Bani Jaber to the heart of Wilayat of Sur.

Wadi Bani Jaber, known for its breathtaking mountainous landscapes and natural allure, is a potential treasure trove for nature enthusiasts and tourists.

The project’s second phase, which involves the construction of a 6-kilometer road, is poised to be a game-changer for local tourism.

Yousef bin Abdullah Al Mejaini, Director of the Road Construction Department at the Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology, affirmed that the beginning of phase two is imminent, with an estimated completion time of one year.

He underscored the project’s economic significance, emphasising that improved road infrastructure would not only promote tourism but also facilitate access to healthcare facilities, nearby villages, and schools.

Abdullah bin Hamood Al Jabri, a local resident, hailed the project’s importance, stating that it would alleviate the hardships faced by the area’s inhabitants and simplify their inter-village movements.

Enhanced connectivity in Oman’s region

In addition to the Wadi Bani Jaber project, the Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology has already completed the first phase of the initiative, linking Wadi Al Minqal to Wadi Bani Jaber in the Wilayat of Sur.

This 16.7-kilometer road boasts dual lanes, box culverts, and road shoulders, greatly enhancing connectivity in the region.

Moreover, the ministry is actively advancing the Liwa dual carriage project, which seeks to connect North Al Batinah Governorate from Liwa Roundabout to the Batinah Expressway intersection, spanning a length of 5.5 kilometers.

This ambitious endeavour, currently at a 55 percent completion rate, involves transforming the existing single carriageway into a dual carriageway, constructing new roundabouts, and preparing entry and exit pathways.

This effort aims to bolster transportation infrastructure and further fuel Oman’s development.
