The woman in charge of transforming London’s Millennium Dome into the O2 venue and the new Wembley Stadium has been appointed to lead a major project in Riyadh.
The board of directors of the Sports Boulevard Foundation has appointed Jayne McGivern as its CEO.
McGivern is one of the world’s leading construction executives with more than 35 years of experience in infrastructure and urban redevelopment mega-projects management.
As well as the O2 and Wembley, McGivern was the president of development and construction at the global entertainment business, Madison Square Garden Company, where she oversaw the construction and delivery of the MSG Spheres.
The Sports Boulevard project is one of Riyadh’s four grand projects launched by King Salman Bin Abdulaziz Al-Saud in March 2019.
The project extends for 135km on Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Road connecting Wadi Hanifah valley in the West with Wadi Al Sulai valley in the East through a grid of safe green pathways for pedestrians, cyclists, and horse-riders.
The project includes 4.4 million square metres of greenery and open spaces, more than 60 multidisciplinary sports facilities, and more than 20 artistic landmarks, in addition to several activity zones, and investment zones with an area exceeding 2.3 million square meters.
Construction on the first phase of the project started in October.
Sports Boulevard was announced alongside three other wellbeing projects in the Saudi capital city, costing a total of $23 billion.
The four wellbeing projects – King Salman Park, Sports Boulevard, Green Riyadh and Riyadh Art – complement the Saudi Vision 2030’s Quality of Life Program.
The government will invest $23 billion, with the four projects offering opportunities worth $15 billion for the private sector to invest in the residential, commercial, recreational and wellness areas.
