In May, it was announced that Dubai’s Deira Clocktower roundabout will undergo a massive renovation.
The iconic Deira Clocktower roundabout renovation was announced by Dubai Municipality, aiming to enhance its aesthetic appeal and preserve its historical significance.
The municipality plans to integrate hard floors with greenery and multicolored lighting, as well as upgrade the design of the water fountain.
The project aligns with Dubai’s commitment to sustainable urban development and supports the city’s futuristic urban and economic goals.
“By maintaining Dubai’s historical and architectural landmarks… this project helps the municipality achieve its objectives of implementing high-level sustainable urban planning,” Dawoud Al Hajri, Director General of Dubai Municipality said.
The initiative is in line with the Dubai 2040 Urban Master Plan launched by Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, which emphasises on sustainable urban development and aims to enhance the quality of life and happiness of residents while boosting Dubai’s global competitiveness.
The three-month-long project, according to Jabir Al Ali, Director of the General Maintenance Department at the Dubai Municipality, will include decorative gardening, the replacement of old floors with hard floors, the implementation of multicolored lighting, and the renovation of the fountain.
The municipality ensures that the modern design of the roundabout will complement the emirate’s theme while preserving the historical and architectural significance of the clocktower.
The Deira Clocktower roundabout, built in 1963, holds great historical value as the first land passage between Deira and Bur Dubai.
Situated at the intersection of Umm Hurair Street and Al Maktoum Street, it played a vital role as the junction for main highways heading into the city before the construction of the DXB-Abu Dhabi Road.
