Al Jaber Engineering and Contracting (ALEC), a wholly owned subsidiary of the Al Jaber Group, has won two major contracts in Abu Dhabi and Dubai.

Al Jaber Engineering and Contracting (ALEC), a wholly owned subsidiary of the Al Jaber Group, has won two major contracts in Abu Dhabi and Dubai.

The first is the US $176 million (AED650 million) contract to build the Qasr Al Sarab Desert Resort & Spa in Liwa, Abu Dhabi, while the second is a $136 million extension to the company’s current contract at Dubai Marina Mall and Hotel.

The client for the Qasr Al Sarab project is the Tourism Development & Investment Company (TDIC). The project has been designed by Durbarch; the project manager is Reaction Project Managers; the engineer is Halcrow and quantity surveyor is MLC.

Construction is due to begin in August and will take around 22 months to complete.

The Dubai contract involves the construction of Marina Plaza, a stand-alone office tower that will be linked to the completed Dubai Marina Mall.

“The piling and shoring has been done, the walling is completed and we had our first kick-off meeting last week,” said Wayne Randall, commercial manager, ALEC.

ALEC is yet to hear the outcome of its bid for the $186 million contract to build the Mall of Arabia at the City of Arabia development in Dubailand.

The company was recently invited to submit an offer for the project alongside a joint venture of ACC, Besix and Arabtec.

Negotiations with the joint venture have been ongoing since the beginning of this year.
