India’s L&T awarded construction contract for Muscat’s Mandarin Oriental

The Omani arm of the Indian firm will undertake the entire construction of the 150-room hotel and its attached residences

L&T Oman, a subsidiary of Indian engineering and construction giant Larsen & Toubro (L&T) has won the construction contract for the Mandarin Oriental Hotel Muscat and its attached residences, according to the company.

“The Buildings and Factories business of L&T Oman has been awarded the main works contract of The Mandarin Oriental, Muscat by Eagle Hills, Muscat,” L&T has said in a regulatory filing. 

Eagle Hills Muscat is a partnership between Eagle Hills Abu Dhabi, the Abu Dhabi-based private real estate investment and development company, and Izz International.

L&T did not disclose the value of the construction contract, which envisages the Omani arm of the Indian company undertaking the entire construction of the 150-room Mandarin Oriental Hotel Muscat and the Residences at the Mandarin Oriental.  

 “L&T will oversee the overall construction within the site, which includes a 150-key hotel and 156 units of branded residences, as well as 1,622 square meters of retail areas, podium and basement,” the company said.

The firm will also undertake the associated external works and services as well as hard and soft landscaping works of the hotel project.

Mandarin Oriental Hotel Muscat and the Residences at the Mandarin Oriental are the maiden projects of Eagle Hills in Oman.

The Residences at Mandarin Oriental, Eagle is being billed as Oman’s first high-end branded, fully-serviced residences.

Residents of the service apartments will have access to services and the finest amenities available at Mandarin Oriental, Muscat, according to info available on Eagle Hills’s site.

Eagle Hills is currently developing a range of mixed-use, mega-projects in Europe, Africa, and the Middle East.

As for L&T, the construction contract of Mandarin Oriental Hotel Muscat and the residences at the Mandarin Oriental, Muscat is the latest in a series of significant engineering and construction projects bagged in the Middle East over the course of the last three months.

Last month, Energy giant Saudi Aramco awarded a major engineering project consisting of 28 offshore jackets to a consortium of L&T Hydrocarbon Engineering Ltd (LTHE) and EMAS, a Subsea7 company.

The Same month, the L&T and the Subsea7 arms’ consortium was also awarded another mega-project in the Marjan field from Saudi Aramco, valued at around $1 billion.

L&T, the Indian multinational engaged in technology, engineering, construction, manufacturing and financial services with over $20 billion in revenue, operates in over 30 countries worldwide.
