Dubai Police is looking to tackle traffic congestion in the emirate.
According to the recent TomTom Traffic Index, a global report detailing the traffic situation in 403 cities in 56 countries around the world, congestion levels in Dubai’s morning rush hour added an average 34 percent to travel times, while evening travel peak added 48 percent.
Dubai Police is looking to address this by using technology to anticipate and prevent traffic jams.
The challenge forms part of its participation in the sixth edition of Dubai Future Accelerators (DFA), which sees 30 local and global companies working closely with government entities in Dubai.
They will collaborate to address industry-specific challenges as well as provide recommendations and smart solutions.
Dubai Municipality is looking to increase green areas in Dubai through the use of modern irrigation systems.
Dubai Roads and Transport Authority plans to reduce the time and cost associated with building and maintaining road and mobility infrastructure, as well as use AI and big data solutions to improve services.
Dubai Electricity and Water Authority, Dubai Health Authority, Dubai Knowledge and Human Development Authority and Etisalat Digital are also taking part in Dubai Future Accelerators.
Launched in 2016, DFA is a global platform that provides an opportunity for startups and entrepreneurs around the world to work with strategic government entities and decision makers in Dubai.
Fifteen countries are taking part including six companies from the UAE, five from the UK, three from the US, three from Spain, two from Denmark and two from Poland, as well as companies from Finland, France, India, Chile, Japan, Singapore, Sri Lanka, Spain, Sweden and Ukraine.
