Saudi royal Prince Abdullah bin Mosaad bin Abdulaziz Al Saud has said he is 100 percent committed to Premier League club Sheffield United after winning a court battle to become sole owner earlier this week.
In a press conference held on Thursday, Prince Abdullah, who previously held 50 percent of the club, said he would “work hard to make the fans proud”.
He has also brought in his son-in-law Prince Musaad, a former Ernst and Young executive, who will become the Premier League’s youngest club chairman at 26.
On Monday, the High Court of Justice, Business and Property Courts of England and Wales, issued its judgment requiring Sheffield United Limited, a company controlled by Kevin McCabe, to sell its shares in Blades Leisure Limited, the parent of Sheffield United Football Club, to UTB, a company owned by Prince Abdullah.
Prince Abdullah said in comments published by the official Sheffield United website: “I think it is a huge responsibility to be owner of this cub. It is a club with a huge tradition, a big fan base. I can assure everyone that we will work hard to make the fans proud and to make everything better.
“I, and my team, are 100 percent committed to the club.”
He added that he was “really happy” with the club’s start to the season and praised the role of manager Chris Wilder.
“We are blessed to have Chris. The results and more importantly the way we play, speaks for itself. Chris is the face of this great club. As the crowd like to say, he is one of us. I have good harmony with Chris, and we’ll always work together to make this team better.”
Speaking about future plans, he said: “We want to run the club responsibly because we have seen many examples in the past of clubs over-spending and going back to the Championship and they suffer.”
Prince Musaad also spoke at the press conference, saying: “My role will be to drive the strategy forward. We want to be a Premier League club; we want to have a sustainable football club. It is business as usual.”
