UAE scraps visit visa extension rules

UAE visit visa extension

Visit visa holders can no longer extend their visas from within the country, as the UAE has suspended that option.

The move is part of the government’s efforts to restore previous visa requirements which were in place before the pandemic, which required those on visit visas to exit the country and travel back on a newly issued visa.

The UAE had eased these rules as travel became difficult during the Covid-19 pandemic, based on humanitarian grounds, allowing those in the country to extend their visa.

As of now, those who wish to extend their visas can do so by going through licensed travel agencies.

“The extension or issuance of a visit visa is only done by licensed travel agencies in the UAE,” a flydubai spokesperson confirmed with Arabian Business.

According to the UAE Ministry of Economy website, citizens from select countries can travel to the UAE and obtain an entry visa upon arrival, and the duration of stay according to this visa is up to 30 days. Citizens of other countries can obtain a visa that allows for a stay of up to 90 days upon arrivals.

Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) citizens do not need a visa to enter the UAE and can enter UAE on presenting their passport issued by one of the GCC countries, the website added.
