Russia Ukraine crisis UAE humanitarian aid

The UAE has offered $5 million in humanitarian aid to the United Nations’ Humanitarian Flash Appeal and the Regional Refugee Response Plan to help civilians impacted by the Russia-Ukraine conflict.

The UAE has underscored the importance of stemming the deteriorating humanitarian situation for civilians.

The nation has called for the protection of civilians, unimpeded access for humanitarian agencies, and safe passage for those seeking to leave the country without discrimination or obstacles.

UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres officially launched the appeal to fund the UN’s humanitarian operations in Ukraine on 1 March, 2022.

According to UN reports, this assistance will be critical in supporting thousands of people suffering due to disruptions in essential services.

The UAE’s contribution is a reflection of the UAE’s emphasis on humanitarian solidarity in conflict settings, as was stated during the UN Security Council’s meeting on the humanitarian situation in Ukraine, the state-run news agency Wam reported.

Meanwhile, the United Nations General Assembly has denounced Russia’s war in Ukraine, as US authorities continued to mull restrictions on Russian imports.

Bloomberg reported that Russian forces appear to be stalled outside of Kyiv, possibly due to food and fuel shortages. Russian forces appear to be preparing to assault the port city of Mariupol from all sides. Meanwhile, Ukraine has stated that it intends to proceed with a second round of talks with Moscow on Thursday, 4 March.
