Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai has ordered urgent aid worth AED50 million to provide relief to those affected by the floods in Pakistan, the Dubai Media Office (DMO) said in a statement.

The aid will be provided by the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Global Initiatives (MBRGI), in cooperation with the World Food Programme and the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Humanitarian and Charity Establishment (MBRCH).

The aid will offer flood affected victims direct food support.

The ongoing floods hit Pakistan in June, and claimed the lives of over 1,136 people, displacing millions, and destroying over 3,450 kilometres of vital roads and isolating entire villages.

Rainfall rates in the country have exceeded four times over and is the first of its kind recorded the past 30 years in Pakistan.

“The humanitarian initiative to provide urgent aid comes in line with the UAE’s keenness to extend a helping hand to support the needs of those affected by natural disasters and crises globally,” DMO said in a statement.

Along with rainfall, the country is currently is also facing difficulties as water-borne diseases surface among flood victims.
