Dubai’s aim to be a hub for large-scale international events is coming to fruition – in the first half of this year, the emirate won 99 major bids for major meetings and conferences.
This means the UAE emirate is expecting to host 77,000 foreign delegates, and clock in 330,000 hotel room nights over the coming years – according to government estimates.
“Business events will continue to be a priority, building on the Expo 2020 Dubai legacy and Dubai’s status as a destination where the world can come togetherm” Ahmed Al Khaja, chief executive officer of Dubai Festivals and Retail Establishment said.
The Emirati official is banking on the success of the recent world expo in Dubai, where the emirate saw millions of visitors throughout the six-month megaevent.
“During the rest of 2022, we will highlight the power of in-person business events and Dubai’s strong value proposition to association executives, corporate meeting planners and other decision-makers,” Steen Jakobsen, associate vice president of Dubai Business Events, said.
The global meetings, incentives, conferences, and exhibitions (MICE) industry is expected to reach a value of $1.3 trillion by 2028 – after a severe slowdown caused by Covid-19 restrictions.
