Dubai Police task force of 17,000+ secure an incident-free New Year

The preparedness of Dubai to handle a large-scale global event was on show once again when Dubai Police announced an incident-free New Year’s Eve celebrations across the 30 locations in the emirates.

For this to happen, as many as 10,579 police officers and 5800 security guards, 1420 volunteers, 3651 patrol vehicles and 45 security boats were deployed, revealed Lieutenant General Abdullah Khalifa Al Marri, Commander-in-Chief of Dubai Police.

It all led to Dubai ringing in 2023 without a single reported accident and without any major traffic snarl and Al Marri praised the professionalism and efficiency of the Executive Committee comprising 48 entities for securing international and local events.

Major General Saif Muhair Al Mazroui, Acting Assistant Commander-in-Chief for Operations Affairs said that the force’s received a total of 20,337 calls – of which 19,147 calls were made on the emergency hotline number 999, and 1190 calls on the non-emergency toll number 901 in a 30-hour period between the beginning of December 31 until 6am UAE time on January 1.

Earlier, Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) had announced that more than 2.1 million passengers used its public transport and shared mobility means during the New Year celebrations – a 33 percent rise from 2022 number.

Dubai Municipality also did not lag behind and it managed to clean up the city within just six hours of the record-breaking celebrations.
