The decision by the Ministry of Education to extend distance learning at the end of last month has prompted parents to call for a reduction in school fees for the final term of the academic year.
Arabian Business stirred the initial debate and Al Najah Education was quick to pick up the baton and run, offering a 20 percent discount for fees across the board.
As expected, others have followed. But how many? Who? And by how much?
Education website Which School Advisor has compiled the latest up-to-date list:
Al Najah Education (Horizon English and Horizon International) – 20 percent discount
Safa British and Safa Community schools – 20 percent discount
Next Generation School – 20 percent
Dubai English Speaking School – 20 percent
Dubai English Speaking College – 20 percent
Jumeirah English Speaking School – 10 percent (parents can pay over three monthly instalments)
Arcadia School – 20 percent (further support may be provided on a case by case basis)
The Arbor School – 20 percent (a further five percent is offered to parents who pay before April 11)
British School Al Khubairat – 15 percent
Star International and Star International Mirdif – 20 percent (payment plans can be set up on request)
Capital School – FS1, 61 percent ; FS2, 35 percent; Y1 33 percent; all other year groups, 20 percent off the KHDA approved fees
Taalem – Foundation, kindergarten, early years, 25 percent; Primary, elementary and secondary, 20 percent (the discount will be applied with 50 percent immediate effect and 50 percent credited against next term’s enrolment)
The English College Dubai – FS1-Y2, AED2,250 discount; Y3-Y13, AED1,750 discount
Aldar Adademies (Al Muna Academy, Al Ain Academy, Al Bateen Academy, Al Mamoura Academy, West Yas Academy and Al Yasmina Academy) – 20 percent (zero percent interest monthly payment plans for the 2020-21 academic year)
International Indian School – 30 percent
Dubai Heights Academy – 10 percent (payment plans offered)
Al Salam schools (Al Salam Private School and Al Salam Community School) – FS, 20 percent; Y1-3, 15 percent; Y4-13, 10 percent (parents can pay in instalments between now and the end of June)
Nord Anglia – 15 percent
Fortes Education (Sunmarke and Regent International) – FS1-2, 25 percent; Y1-13, 20 percent
Repton (Repton Dubai, Repton Fry Campus Abu Dhabi, Repton Foundation School (Rose Campus) and Foremarke) – AED8 million set aside to provide, “immediate relief to support our community by ensuring continuity of education for families directly impacted by the current Covid-19 crisis and unable to meet Term 3 payments”. Fund will be allocated on a needs basis. 15 percent of Term 3 fees are being deducted from each child’s fees for the academic year 2020-2021
Ras Al Khaimah Academy – 20 percent. The Academy will also be refunding all non-academic third-term fees, such as transportation and canteen charges
GEMS Education – Offering discounts or deferments to those parents that had been directly affected by Covid-19
Innoventures Education (Dubai International Academy, Collegiate American School, Raffles International School and Raffles World Academy) – Offering personalised payment plans and deferment of fees
Ambassador Education – Parents to apply for an “application of relief”
Kings’ Education – Applications to be made for bursaries, parents must provide bank statements and proof of earnings pre-Covid-19 and current.
