Saudi Arabia’s non-oil exports surged 26.8 percent year-on-year in June, hitting SR30.1 billion ($8 billion), amid the country’s aggressive efforts to diversify its income sources.
Products in the chemical sector and allied industries took most of the chunk of the kingdom’s non-oil exports at 35 percent, according to data from the General Authority for Statistics.
Overall Saudi exports were up by 75.2 percent in the same month, reaching SR147.7 billion. Although non-oil exports performed well, the oil sector drove most of the rally, rising 94.1 percent in June.
Earnings from oil exports stood at SR57 billion – the highest in six years.
China emerged as Saudi Arabia’s main trading partner, receiving 14.1 percent of the kingdom’s total exports. Japan took 10 percent, while India on third place, received 9.6 percent of Saudi exports.
Imports from China amounted to SR12.7 billion or 21 percent of the kingdom’s total imports, which rose 28.9 percent to hit SR59.9 billion in June.
