UFC fighter Khabib Nurmagomedov can expect a “huge fine” for instigating a post-fight brawl after successfully thwarting Conor McGregor’s bid to take back the UFC lightweight crown, according to Floyd Mayweather Jr.
Speaking to ITP Live during a recent visit to UAE, Mayweather – who defeated McGregor in a boxing match in August 2017 – said the Irishman is “a tough competitor”.
“But from what I heard the guy, McGregor’s opponent [Nurmagomedov] jumped out of the ring and was fighting people in the crowd,” he said. “Very unprofessional.”
During the interview, Mayweather compared the incident during his 2006 fight against fellow American Zab Judah, which descended into a brawl between both fighters’ camps – as well as security personnel and police officers – after Mayweather’s uncle and trainer, Roger Mayweather, angrily confronted Judah in the ring after he delivered a low blow.
“There was a crazy melee in the ring and there was a huge penalty, a huge fine. If I’m not mistaken, seven figures,” he said. “So when a guy jumps out of the cage to the audience and is fighting different people, the fine is going to be crazy.”
During his visit to the UAE, Mayweather spent a day in Abu Dhabi visiting the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque and Warner Bros. World. Throughout the visit, he posted pictures to his 21.5 million Instagram followers.
