Saudi Arabia has announced new conditions for obtaining a license to carry or acquire individual weapons or hunting weapons.

Announced on Monday by the Saudi Ministry of Interior via a post on Twitter, a series of updated conditions were listed.

As per Saudi’s Ministry of Interior General Department of Weapons and Explosives:

Conditions

  • Must be a Saudi national
  • Applicant age must be above 22 years
  • Criminal record must be clean
  • Must be free from any infirmity or physical, nervous or mental illness that hampers the use of arms according to the prepared form
  • Must have no security orders or restrictions
  • The weapon must have no modifications

Procedures

  • A licensee provides a statement of names of persons wishing to purchase handguns to public security (weapons, disable explosives).
  • After fulfilling the required conditions, the statement is re-sent to the licensee in order to complete procedures and to provide for public security, a list of weapons is to be submitted to the concerned authority for approval.
  • The competent Authority shall complete approval procedures and provide a copy of such for the public security (department of weapons and explosives) in order to inform the licensee.
