Emirates redesigns Iftar boxes for Ramadan

Snack packs to be distributed on selected flights across the Gulf prior to Iftar and Imsak

Emirates has redesigned its Iftar food boxes for select flights during Ramadan, including those within the Gulf.

The boxes will be available in all cabin classes on select flights to and from destinations across the GCC, as well as for Umrah pilgrim groups travelling to Jeddah and Medina in Saudi Arabia.

Although the service has been available on Emirates flights for the past two decades, the boxes have been redesigned this year with a modern Arab look, the airline said on Wednesday.

The menus have also been redesigned, inspired by traditional Middle East flavours. Options include za’atar chicken with hummus, spinach fatayer, halloumi cheese and cucumber sandwiches, yogurt and traditional sweets such as mammoul and dates.

The boxes will be served on flights departing close to Iftar from Emirates’ hub at Dubai International Airport Terminal 3. On certain routes, these boxes will be offered to customers prior to Imsak – the time when fasting starts.

Emirates uses a tool that calculates exact timings for Imsak and Iftar using the aircraft’s longtitude, latitude and altitude.

The aircraft’s captain will inform passengers of the Iftar time as sundown approaches.

During the holy month, starting June 6, cold meals will be served in lieu of hot ones on all flights to Jeddah and Medina, including Umrah day flights, Emirates said.
