Dubai’s DSI wins $126m tourism deal in Egypt

CEO Khaldoun Tabari says burgeoning tourism industry in Egypt offers lucrative opportunities

Drake & Scull International, the Dubai-based engineering contractor, has won a AED465m ($126m) contract in Egypt, its first in the Arab state.

The company will provide mechanical, electrical and plumbing works for the Nile Corniche Project in Cairo, under the contract, it said in an emailed statement on Sunday.

The project is slated for completion in 2014.

Khaldoun Tabari, CEO of DSI, said the burgeoning tourism industry in the Arab world’s most populous state offers lucrative opportunities to contractors.

“We are keen to be a part this development and look forward to further growth within the country,” he said.

Drake & Scull said it had an order backlog valued at AED5.5bn as of September with an additional AED800m worth of contracts made in the last quarter of 2010.
