With a milestone of more than 20 million visits from across the globe, Expo 2020 has left an enduring and multi-faceted impact on Dubai that will last beyond world fair’s six months duration in the city.
Fostered business growth
More than three in four companies in Dubai registered business growth during Expo 2020, while 73.5 percent of them built new business relations during the world fair.
Nearly half of survey respondents benefitted from B2B meetings and the Global Business Forum series.
Tourism boost
Hotel and F&B operators across Dubai had a boom in guest numbers throughout Expo’s duration, especially the last eight weeks.
The global event showcased the city to the world and the resulting tourism boost is expected to last into the summer and 2023.
Showcasing events industry
After being negatively impacted by the pandemic, Dubai’s events industry received a great confidence boost because of Expo 2020.
The highly successful closing ceremony showcased that the local events industry creates experiences that have an emotional feeling the digital realm cannot replace.
Global collaboration
Expo drove world-leading speakers to the UAE to exchange knowledge and learnings with leading Emirati talent.
It has a long-term legacy in enabling global collaboration among world leaders across varied industries, from music, to technology, to food security, to sustainability, and more.
Enabling startup success
District 2020 will play a role in enabling regional and global startups to scale up within Dubai, providing a launchpad to access the MENA region.
Part of this will be through the community it seeks to create, encompassing accelerators, incubators, VCs, SMEs and startups.
