The Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation has announced that working hours for private-sector employees during Ramadan will be reduced by two hours each day.

All private sector entities operating in the country are required to comply with its provisions, the ministry said in a circular.

The circular was issued in implementation of the Federal Decree-Law No. 33 of 2021, on regulating labour relations.

Earlier this month, the UAE Government revealed the official working hours for Ministry employees and federal government employees during Ramadan in 2022.

The working hours for federal authorities will be from 9:00am to 02:30pm, from each Monday to Thursday during Ramadan, and from 9:00am to 12:00 noon on Fridays.

The decision also permits federal authorities to implement flexible working and remote work systems on Fridays during Ramadan.

In addition, the UAE government resolution offers 40 percent of the total number of government employees the option to work from home on Fridays.

When will the UAE mark the start of Ramadan in 2022?

Ramadan – which is the ninth month in the Islamic Calendar and is recognised as a time when Muslims across the globe focus on fasting, prayer, pilgrimage, charity, and devotion – commemorates the month when the first verses of the Quran were revealed to the Prophet Mohammed.

Tentatively, Ramadan in 2022 is expected to begin on Saturday, April 2, according to Amman-headquartered Arabic weather forecaster Arabia Weather.

However, the exact date for the start of Ramadan in the UAE will be announced by the UAE’s official moon-sighting committee who look for the first sighting of the new crescent moon.
