Summer holidays are coming to an end for many people in the UAE as schools resume and activity levels increase at workplaces around the city.

People in Dubai and across the country are already looking ahead to their next break, with school and public holiday dates for the next year being announced.

As well as an influx of returning holidaymakers, Dubai is also braced for an influx of wealthy individuals as millionaires from the UK and France migrate to the city. It is part of a migration of UNHWI that is targeting Dubai and the UAE in general.

Also hitting headlines this week was news of the Dubai Land Department banning 10 landlords for violations of health and safety rules, the Dubai Metro raising minimum fees for nol cards and plans for the academic year revealed by the UAE Ministry of Education.

Also, one of the world’s most famous social media stars added a YouTube channel to a record-breaking Instagram account. Read on to find out who.

The UAE government has issued the academic calendar for Dubai private schools for the 2024-2025 academic year.

The calendar outlines key dates for schools starting in April and September, mandating a minimum of 182 school days.

For schools beginning in April 2024, the academic year starts on April 1 and concludes in March 2025. Summer break began on July 1, 2024, with classes set to resume on August 26.

Dubai Land Department bans 10 landlords from leasing properties due to overcrowding

The Dubai Land Department has announced a ban on 10 landlords from leasing properties in the city following inspection campaigns.

Health and safety inspections revealed overcrowded properties in violation of health and safety guidelines.

The DLD has urged landlords and property owners in the city to comply with laws and guidelines to avoid penalties.

Dubai Metro: RTA hikes minimum top-up fare for nol card to AED50

Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has announced a change to the minimum top-up amount for nol cards at Dubai Metro ticket offices.

Starting 17 August, passengers will need to add a minimum of AED50 when topping up their cards.

“Your #PublicTransport trips are smoother with #RTA’s digital services. Top up your nol Card anywhere with the amount you want via nol Pay app, RTA website or RTA Dubai app, to secure your trip and save time. Starting August 17, 2024, the minimum top-up at Metro station ticket offices will increase to AED 50,” RTA said via X (formerly Twitter).

Millionaire migration: 21% of young and wealthy from UK, France target UAE as new home, report finds

A survey of British and French millionaires has shown that 44 percent of them are more likely to leave their countries than they were before the recent elections in their countries. It also revealed that more than one-fifth (21 percent) of young millionaires named the United Arab Emirates (UAE) as the country they were most interested in emigrating to.

The Affluence & Elections Survey, commissioned by Arton Capital, surveyed 256 French residents with net assets of at least €1 million and 262 UK residents with net assets of at least £1 million. Of these, 26 percent of respondents had a net worth of more than £/€5 million.

The survey was conducted following elections in France and the UK, in which left-wing governments were elected in both countries. It uncovered the extent to which wealthy British and French citizens are concerned about potential tax rises and the future of their economies.

UAE poised for long-term UHNWI influx as Middle East hub status grows

The United Arab Emirates can expect a further influx in ultra-high net worth individuals relocations fuelled by tax benefits and new regulations, an expert told Arabian Business.

This trend, which experts say is likely to continue, is reshaping the region’s wealth management sector and driving significant infrastructure investments. “The remarkable influx of UHNWIs from across the globe to the Middle East, and the United Arab Emirates in particular, has seen this community adapting to the UAE as their new home, reflecting strong confidence and a long-term commitment to be based out of the country,” said Tariq Nakhooda, Country Head, UAE at IQ-EQ, an investor services group.

This comes as around 128,000 millionaires are expected to migrate globally this year, up from just 57,000 a decade ago, and as the UAE continues to witness a significant surge in its millionaire population. The country is currently home to 116,500 millionaires, 308 centi-millionaires, and 20 billionaires.

The UAE has announced plans for the upcoming academic year as it looks to further advance education in the country.

The UAE Ministry of Education (MoE) has confirmed its comprehensive preparedness for the 2024-2025 academic year, reaffirming that public schools are ready to welcome students back on Monday, 26th August 2024, as a result of the concerted efforts of all teams at the MoE, that worked diligently to ensure an ideal and seamless start to the new academic year.

During the briefing, Sarah Al Amiri, Minister of Education emphasised that the MoE put proactive plans in place prior to the conclusion of the previous academic year in the UAE.
