The UAE has issued guidance on working hours and breaks for employees during Ramadan.
The Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation shared guidance on the working hours, break times and consecutive hours for staff in the country throughout Ramadan.
In an update published on social media the MOHRE offered guidance for workers according to the Regulation of Labour Relations Law.
UAE Ramadan working hours
The MOHRE said:
- The ordinary working day is reduced by two hours during Ramadan
- The rest break is one hour
- Workers should not work for more than five consecutive hours without a break to rest or to pray
The announcement followed the implementation of Clause 2 of Article 15 of Cabinet Resolution No. 1 of 2022 regarding the executive regulations of Federal Decree Law No. 33 of 2021 on the Regulation of Labour Relations and its amendments.
According to the UAE labour law “Private sector workers are required to work 8 hours per day or 48 hours per week. During the holy month of Ramadan, working hours are reduced by two.”
Commute time from place of residence to the workplace is not included in the working hours, except for certain categories of workers as specified by the Executive Regulations of the Labour Law.
