The UAE Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation (MoHRE) has announced a paid private sector holiday for employees.
The holiday is due to the Hijri New Year, which falls on July 21, Thursday.
“We wish the UAE’s leadership and people, and the Arab and Islamic nations a blessed Hijri New Year. May this year bring prosperity, happiness and peace. On this occasion, July 21 will be an official paid holiday for employees in the private sector,” MoHRE said via Instagram.
Working hours for both public and private sector will resume on Monday, July 24.
This decision aligns with a Cabinet Resolution regarding official holidays for both the public and private sectors in the UAE for the year 2023.
The Islamic New Year also referred to as the Hijri New Year, signifies the start of a fresh lunar year.
Most Muslims observe the first day of Muharram as the beginning of the Islamic year.
