Three petroleum tankers exploded on Monday morning in ICAD 3, Mussafah, near ADNOC’s storage tanks in Abu Dhabi, leaving three people dead and another six injured.

Abu Dhabi Police confirmed a fire had broken out, causing the explosion, and added that a minor fire had also broken out in the new construction area of Abu Dhabi International Airport.

According to a police statement, early investigations suggest that the fire was caused by small flying objects that “possibly belong to drones,” state-news agency WAM reported.

Teams are currently working to put the fire out and an investigation is underway to determine the cause of the fire. No significant damage has been caused by either of the fires, WAM said.
