UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan has called for peace and harmony to those in the UAE and the world over.

In a Twitter post, the president said: “As the holy month of Ramadan begins, I wish you all a blessed month of reflection and pray that God continues to grant peace and harmony to the people of the UAE and the world.”

Ramadan in the UAE began on Thursday, March 23. The beginning of Ramadan was announced after the International Astronomical Center (IAC) has announced the sighting of the crescent moon.

The observation took place on Wednesday at 8:15 AM in Abu Dhabi.

In a Twitter post, the IAC said: “The first picture of the crescent of the blessed month of Ramadan 1444 AH. It was also photographed during the day, shortly before Abu Dhabi, by the Astronomical Seal Observatory of the International Astronomy Center, at the time of filming, Wednesday, March 22, 2023 AD, at 08:15 AM UAE time. UAE Ramadan 2023

Ramadan is a significant month in the Islamic calendar, observed by millions of Muslims around the world with fasting, prayer, and charitable acts.

Ramadan is the ninth month in the Islamic lunar calendar. With 12 months and either 354 or 355 days in the Islamic year the corresponding date is slightly different each year.

The word “Ramadan” comes from the Arabic root word “ramidha,” which means “scorching heat” or “dryness.”

The fast is broken each evening with a meal called iftar, which typically includes dates and other traditional foods.

With Ramadan set to begin tomorrow, here is all you need to know about fasting hours and iftar timings.

Ramadan in UAE: Day 1

Day 1 of the Holy month (March 23) will begin with the call to prayer at 5:02 AM, prior to which the fast begins at 4:52 AM.

The breaking of the fast comes with a meal known as iftar and comes at the same time as the Maghrib prayer.

According to the Islamic Affairs and Charitable Activities Department (IACAD), the breaking of the fast will take place at 6:35 PM.

The timing for Maghrib prayer will see a slight increase by minutes from March through April as the daylight hours lengthen.
