Ramadan 2023: UAE four-day weekend for Eid Al Fitr

If Eid-Al Fitr falls on April 20, then the UAE will have a four-day weekend on April 20, 21, 22 and 23

The UAE will see a four-day weekend after Ramadan, which is expected to begin on March 22.

According to the International Astronomical Center (IAC), the last crescent of Sha’aban was sighted in Abu Dhabi on Tuesday, March 21 at approximately 10:45 AM.

Sha’aban, which is the month that precedes the holy month, was noted after the authority saw a faint crescent. However, it was not clearly visible due to dusty and partly cloudy weather conditions.

“Crescent at the end of the month, for the month of Sha’ban 1444 AH. This was as it was photographed during the day, shortly before Abu Dhabi, by the Astronomical Seal Observatory of the International Astronomy Center, at the time of filming, Tuesday, March 21, at 10:45 AM. The distance of the moon from the sun is 7.1 degrees. The crescent appears with difficulty due to the dusty and partly cloudy weather conditions,” the authority said via Twitter.

In addition to this, the UAE Moonsighting Committee will come together on Tuesday after Maghrib prayers, to determine the crescent moon for Ramadan.

If sighted on Tuesday, then Wednesday will be the first day of Ramadan. If not, then Thursday will be the first day of Ramadan.

Given the two possibilities, Eid Al-Fitr is most likely to fall on April 20 or April 21, which will also mark the end of Ramadan.

If Eid-Al Fitr falls on April 20, then the UAE will have a four-day weekend on April 20, 21, 22 and 23.

If Eid-Al Fitr falls on April 21, then the UAE will have a three-day weekend on April 21, 22 and 23.

Confirmed dates for both Ramadan and Eid Al-Fitr will only be announced as per the moon sightings.
