During Ramadan 2023 passengers on leading Gulf airlines are being invited to break fasts with specially created iftar meals.
Emirates, Etihad and Qatar Airways have all announced iftar offerings to run throughout Ramadan this year.
From specially created menus from notable chefs to in-air announcements and custom meal times travellers observing Ramadan will be catered for by airlines in the region. Iftar meals are offered to passengers in all classes and on select routes throughout the holy month.
Emirates Ramadan 2023 iftar
Emirates is preparing thousands of Ramadan meal boxes for fasting passengers both onboard and Iftar boxes at boarding gates.
Throughout Ramadan, customers breaking their fast across all cabin classes to select Emirates destinations will receive nutritionally-balanced Ramadan meal boxes. Iftar meals will be served in bespoke boxes designed by Emirates to represent the rich Emirati heritage of the Al Sadu weavers.
The Ramadan meal boxes will include light dishes and starters such as hummus and spinach bil zeit, Greek salad and cauliflower bil tahini, falafel sandwiches, pasta salad and fried aubergine with mint, zaatar chicken salad and cauliflower bil tahini, chicken musakhan sandwiches with Arabic bread, as well as staples like traditional dates and refreshing laban. A smaller Iftar box will also be served at boarding gates at Iftar time including all the essentials to comfortably break the fast.
Etihad Ramadan 2023 iftar
Etihad Airways is collaborating with Emirati Chef Khaled Alsaadi to recreate popular Ramadan dishes fusing authentic Emirati recipes with contemporary cooking techniques and local ingredients. Travellers breaking their fast prior to departure or just before landing will be provided with takeaway bags containing dates, a drink and a snack.
Etihad’s regular hot meal service will be complemented by the Iftar meals onboard, and guests will be treated to meals including Saffron curry crusted seabream, Lamb shank with black lime jus, Lentil soup, Chaami and beetroot salad, Machboos chicken ciabatta sandwich, Aseeda cheesecake, Saffron pot de creme with batheeta crumble and more.
Etihad’s holy month menu will be available to guests across all cabins on selected flights that coincide with iftar times. This includes flights to and from the Gulf countries and flights catering to Umrah groups travelling to Jeddah during the month of Ramadan.
Qatar Airways Ramadan 2023 iftar
Qatar Airways is offering a bespoke Iftar to passengers on board and at Al Safwa, Al Mourjan and Global Premium Lounges. Special holy month offerings will be available on flights to the GCC, Middle East, and some Indian Sub-continent, African and Asian destinations.
As the sun begins to set and passengers approach the time to break their fast, Qatar Airways cabin crew will make an announcement indicating Iftar time and invite passengers to enjoy food from a specially designed Iftar bag to cater to fasting travellers.
The bag contains vegetarian and non-vegetarian wraps, Arabic sweets, dates, a slice of cake, laban and water.
