Britain’s Queen Elizabeth II passed away on Thursday at the age of 96 at her residence in Balmoral, Scotland after a reign of over 70 years.
The Queen had been under medical supervision at Balmoral after pulling out of a virtual Privy Council meeting on Wednesday, with doctors advising her to rest.
At the time of her passing, Queen Elizabeth II was the second-longest reigning monarch in history, having served 70 years and 214 days as the UK’s head of state.
In the days before her passing, the Queen appointed Liz Truss as UK prime minister from Balmoral, a divergence from the normal location of Buckingham Palace in London. Throughout her reign, the Queen had typically held an audience with each new prime minister at the London residence.
