Saudi Arabia’s multi-billion dollar development – NEOM, is set to open to the public with its first destination, Sindalah in 2024. NEOM apart from its futuristic features and developments has a distinctive name and logo, each section reflecting a core value.
The name NEOM was created by using the first three letters of the ancient Greek word – neo, meaning new and the ‘M’ comes from the first letter of the Arabic word – Mustaqbal, meaning future. ‘M’ is also the first letter of the name of the Kingdom’s Crown Prince – Mohammed bin Salman. The name “NEOM” was formed and agreed upon unanimously by the board.
The name was finalised after testing lists of over 2,000 names proposed by the consulting team which was then reduced to 150 names and finally five names of which none were chosen.
The board eventually came up with the name after brainstorming for words that represented the project sectors and their basic pillars, which is also how the distinctive logo was designed.
NEOM posted on Twitter on Wednesday, explaining the core values behind the logo design.

The logo is divided into five sections, each with a unique pattern that signifies one of the five key pillars.
Earlier this week, NEOM announced a partnership with leading photographers from Getty and Unsplash to provide a sneak peek of the destination ahead of welcoming visitors in 2024.
Over 200 images were released showcasing the various aspects of the destination from coasts to corals, islands and deserts.
