Dubai Public Prosecution has alerted against forging, counterfeiting or reproducing debit and credit cards. The action can result in fines starting from AED500,000 up to AED2 million.
The authorities detailed the penalties via a post on its official social media account saying, “Forging or counterfeiting or reproducing a credit card or debit card or any other electronic payment method by using any information technology means or computer programme, shall expose to imprisonment and fine not less than five hundred thousand dirhams and not in excess of two million dirhams or either of these two penalties.”
Heavy fines and jail time for forgery in Saudi Arabia
Earlier this year, Saudi Arabia announced a $1.3 million fine, and five-year jail time for forgery. The Kingdom’s Public Prosecution “determined the penalties” against anyone who forges any electronic signature, records, digital certificate or uses these documents while knowing that they are forged.
The kingdom’s Public Prosecution will also confiscate the devices, systems and programs that were used in the forgery.
The Public Prosecution will also publish the judgment issued at the expense of the convict after the ruling becomes final.
