Saudi Arabia’s Transport General Authority (TGA) has announced that using electric scooters during this year’s Hajj season will be limited to government employees and permit holders.

This measure is implemented to enhance safety and preventive measures for the pilgrims in the holy sites.

The authority said that electric scooters are only permitted for the transportation of government employees authorised by the Transportation General Authority and Public Security, as well as scooters that hold permits from the authority and the Public Security for pilgrims.

Hajj 2023 scooter rules

It is crucial to comply with the instructions provided by the relevant authorities.

Previously, the Transport General Authority stated that more than 1,000 scooters would be provided in various categories, including:

  • Quad-wheel
  • Tri-wheel
  • Dual-wheel scooters.

These scooters are intended to serve elderly pilgrims and individuals with disabilities on the designated service route from the Jamarat facility to the Grand Mosque, facilitating their journey to and from the Grand Mosque.

The Transport General Authority has also established a specialised team to educate users on safely using the scooters during Hajj.

The authority urges all scooter users to adhere to the instructions and licenses issued by the relevant authorities.

These efforts align with the role of the Transport General Authority in providing diverse transportation options and embracing modern technologies and smart mobility.

They aim to assess the suitability and contribution of these innovations in providing a distinctive transportation experience while ensuring safety for everyone.
