Eid Al Fitr 2023: Cash, video games, clothes are top gifts for UAE, Saudi residents

New data from YouGov also showed that residents in UAE and Saudi Arabia shop for Eid gifts well in advance

Cash, clothes, footwear, spiritual wellness gifts, videogames are among the top gifts to be given out for Eid Al Fitr this year, by residents in UAE and Saudi Arabia.

A new study by YouGov showed that about 35 percent of KSA residents intend to give confectionery items as a gift on Ramadan or Eid, compared to the UAE’s 21 percent.

Cash emerged as the top gift for both UAE and KSA residents to give out during Eid Al Fitr, followed by clothes/footwear, spiritual wellness gifts, fashion accessories and donation in your name.

Video games and consoles is also a more popular gift choice among KSA than UAE residents (22 percent in Saudi Arabia vs 16 percent in UAE), the YouGov data said.

The study said that when it gifting ideas, social media is the main source (61 percent), followed by in-store browsing (58 percent) and brand websites (46 percent).

“A quarter rely on TV advertising for ideas, but it is notably more relevant to KSA residents than people in UAE (28 percent vs 23 percent).

Moreover, in terms of buying gifts, consumers are “more likely to make purchases close to the festival than way in advance. Around seven in ten residents in both the countries plan their shopping about a week or lesser in advance, with the largest proportion (31 percent) shopping a week in advance,” the study said.

UAE residents are comparatively “short-term planners,” with 33 percent of consumes saying they shopping 2-3 days in advance. 33 percent of the UAE consumer population also shop about a week in advance

A majority of consumers in Saudi Arabia prefer shopping a week in advance, followed by 22 percent of consumers saying they shop 2-3 weeks in advance.

“Compared to this, long term planners are lesser in both the countries. 18 percent planning their shopping 2-3 weeks before the festival and one in ten plan a month or more in advance (10 percent),” the study said.
